Wall area and siding material
Removal, repairs, and exterior add-ons
Optional financing
This is a planning estimate, not a contractor quote, wall inspection, moisture diagnosis, warranty review, code determination, HOA approval, or lender quote.

Payment is principal and interest only. Dealer fees, promotional terms, lien position, underwriting, tax treatment, rate changes, and draw schedules can change the real financing cost.
Methodology notes
Siding area
If wall square footage is entered, the calculator uses it directly. Otherwise, it multiplies home square footage by the selected wall-area factor to approximate exposed siding area and waste.
Project budget
Material, labor, and removal are calculated per siding square foot and adjusted by the complexity multiplier. Repair, house wrap, insulation, trim, soffit, fascia, and permit allowances are added separately.
Cash and financing
Contingency is applied to the subtotal before financing. If no financed amount is entered, the calculator estimates a payment for the cash shortfall after available project cash.
Siding replacement caveats
- Contractor quotes depend on local labor, material availability, staging, access, waste, disposal, permit rules, HOA requirements, and the exact wall system.
- Rot, soft sheathing, failed flashing, water intrusion, insect damage, mold concerns, and framing repairs are common reasons siding projects exceed the initial bid.
- House wrap, flashing, rain screens, and exterior insulation can improve durability and comfort, but they need compatible installation details to avoid trapping moisture.
- Warranties depend on product choice, installer certification, fastener spacing, clearances, paint or finish maintenance, caulk maintenance, registration, and transfer rules.
- Wood and some engineered products need paint, stain, caulk, or inspection cycles. Vinyl and metal may need less paint maintenance but still need cleaning and detail checks.
Siding replacement FAQ
Is material cost the same as installed cost?
No. Material cost is only the siding product and related components. Installed cost also includes labor, removal, disposal, trim work, flashing, repairs, permits, overhead, and profit.
Should I replace windows at the same time?
Sometimes. If windows or flashing are failing, coordinating siding and window work can reduce duplicated trim and weatherproofing labor. If windows are sound, replacing siding alone may be more efficient.
Can siding lower maintenance costs?
It can, especially when replacing painted wood with vinyl, fiber cement, metal, or factory-finished products. The savings depend on material choice, climate, exposure, installation quality, and future cleaning or painting needs.
