Flooring scope and unit costs
Cash and optional financing
This is a planning estimate, not a contractor bid, flooring quote, lender quote, moisture report, warranty approval, permit approval, or inspection report.

Financing payment is principal and interest only. Actual offers may include fees, promotional periods, deferred interest, variable rates, lien terms, minimum charges, or prepayment rules.
Methodology notes
Materials and labor
Material cost multiplies square footage by the material price and the waste factor. Labor cost multiplies installed square footage by the labor rate before add-ons.
Add-ons and contingency
Removal, subfloor repair, trim, transitions, delivery, disposal, furniture moving, and permits are added before contingency. Contingency is applied to the full pre-contingency project cost.
Cash and financing
Cash gap compares total installed cost with cash available. If cash is short and rate and term are entered, the calculator estimates a payment for the shortfall using standard amortization.
Actual flooring costs depend on contractor quotes, local labor rates, site access, floor prep, moisture conditions, stair count, layout complexity, disposal rules, warranty requirements, and financing terms. See full disclosure.
Flooring installation FAQ
Should I include old flooring removal?
Yes, unless the installer has clearly included it. Removal and disposal can change quickly when there are multiple layers, glued flooring, tile demo, staples, asbestos concerns, or heavy disposal loads.
What contingency should I use?
Simple carpet or vinyl plank projects may fit 10% if the subfloor is known. Tile, hardwood, older homes, moisture questions, stairs, and pattern layouts often deserve 15% to 25% or more.
Why does warranty matter?
Flooring warranties often depend on approved installation methods, moisture readings, acclimation, underlayment, expansion gaps, and substrate prep. Skipping those steps can make a cheaper bid more expensive later.
